The Wedding Favor

Wedding favors are something that all brides think about.  Should I do favors? Should I not do favors?  What is appropriate or too much or too little?

In my opinion, the wedding favor is a perfect way to thank your guests for coming to your wedding, purchasing you a gift, staying in a hotel and spending money on gas.  Yes, of course, you are paying for their meal, and you have spent countless hours and dollars on making the day perfect, but a small favor is something they take with them and will remember always.  Favors are, of course, not necessary, but they do stand out and it is a nice little way to say Thank You.

I have compiled a variety of favor options for you to take a look at.  Some are hand made, some are creative, and some are Eco-friendly.  I hope you find something either from this list or from a great wedding favor website that will reflect who you are as a couple and how grateful you are to your friends and family for their love and support.

Favor #1:  The Bottle Stopper
This is a great favor idea and an increasingly more popular option.  Available in a variety of themes from vineyard grapes to snowflakes to bling and everything in between, the bottle stopper is the perfect favor for a couple who enjoys wine, has toured wineries, or has a large number of family and friends who they know will get plenty of use out of this gift.  A more expensive option, this gift typically goes for around $3.50 each.

Favor #2: The Pint Glass
Fun, personalized pint glasses are a great favor idea for the couples who have a young, fun spirit.  They are something people will use over and over and will be a constant reminder of how much fun they had at your wedding.  Some guests may even use their glass right away by taking it to the bar to be filled with their favorite brew.  At less then $2.50 each, this is a unique way to say Thank You and a fun option for a more party-minded crowd.  (Other options are wine glasses, stemless wineglasses, champagne flutes or glass mugs).

Favor #3:  The DIY Candy Bar
A tasty treat for guests to enjoy, many couples are opting for the Candy Bar with personalized wrapper.  A take on the traditional Hershey bar, this is ideal for couples on a tight budget.  Print labels with your names and wedding date and add a favorite photo of you both.  Guests will surely scarf these up!  Order them online for less than $1.00 each or print them yourself at home and pay just the cost of paper and glue (and candy of course!)  We had a couple who had a family friend make them chocolate bars and bagged them for each guest at their Classic Car wedding!  The possibilities are endless!

Favor #4:  Go Green!
Are you an Eco-conscious couple looking for something environmentally friendly to give your guests?  The options for you are constantly growing and becoming increasingly more popular.  Flower seed packets are a cute, fun way to thank guests while also doing something good for the environment.  Many of these packets are biodegradable or made directly out of seeds and can be planted directly into the ground or flower pot.   Averaging about $1.50 each, what could be more fun then watching a garden grow!

Favor #5:  The Donation

Making a donation to your favorite charity (or charities) is becoming a very popular way to thank guests.  many couples are opting to send a generous donation in lieu of wedding favors and placing a card at each guests seat telling them where the donation went and the purpose.  The Knot Shop on theknot.com provides custom made place cards and the option to donate directly to your favorite charity from their website.  Click Here to find out how!

No matter what you decide to go with, make it something that you and your partner will both enjoy and something that says a lot about who you are as a couple.  And remember, your guests will be so grateful for the extra little something to take home with them!

December, Sweet December

The Community Center all "Decked" out for the Holidays!
It has been a long, crazy, busy month here at the CCC.  Events every weekend, sometimes 2 events in one weekend - not to mention everything that we had going on during the week.  I'm spent!  And really looking forward to my week off between Christmas and New Years!

We kicked off December with a fundraiser for CHEER - Deck the Halls - a 2 day weekend consisting of cocktails, hors d'oeuvres, silent auction items, wreath sales and day of Craft and Gift vendors selling everything you could have needed to fulfill your Christmas giving list!  It was a fun weekend and a huge success and we cannot wait to do it all again next year.  (Mark your calendar - November 30th and December 1st, 2012!)

My grandmom with Miss Delaware at the
Deck the Halls event for CHEER

We also had the pleasure of having the Lions Club Visually Impaired Christmas Dinner, The Delaware State University Alumni Association, KSI and Maxima Radio for a variety of holiday events.  There was certainly never a dull moment and my head is still spinning from all the fun we had!!

2012 is going to be a very exciting year - we are already booking up with weddings and events and I would LOVE to have a Civil Union (GO Delaware!!!!), so if you know anyone looking for a great space send them my way!  I am really hoping to have at least 15 voicemails when I get back from my week off from people who were engaged over the holidays - Hello boyfriends, I'm looking at you :)

I would like to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a Safe and Happy New Year!  Thank you for an amazing 2011!  I appreciate every follower, stalker and link clicker!  You're the best!

XOXO

A total disaster!

{The resort in Nova Scotia before the fire}

"There are wedding disasters, and then there are wedding disasters. In the first (and more typical) category, a bride or groom might botch the wedding vows or flub a dance move. But in the DEFCON 1 category, the entire wedding venue — including the food, cake, decorations, flowers and gifts — can become engulfed in flames.
That happened to Michael and Nancy Rogers, a Canadian couple who had meticulously planned their wedding at a popular seaside resort on Nova Scotia’s South Shore. On Saturday, less than an hour before the ceremony was to begin in a main lodge on the resort property, the bride-to-be learned that the lodge was on fire."  CLICK HERE to read the full story on the MSNBC website!

*We wish this resort a speedy rebuild and much luck in the coming months.*

Kent-Sussex Quilt Show

It has been a few weeks since my last "event" post, so I'm very excited to be coming back with a great event that was held at the Community Center the weekend of October 22nd and 23rd.  The Kent-Sussex Quilt show brings hundreds of quilts from 4 guilds in two out of three counties.  I love quilts and fancy myself a (terrible) quilter.  I may not be great, but I love trying!  I had a blast walking up and down all of the rows of beautiful quilts - art!  Some were really outstanding!  I have attached a couple photos for you so that if you missed out you can still sneak a peak.  They only hold this event every 2 years and we are hoping to have them back in 2013 for the next Show!
